WellCare Medicare Advantage is Leaving New Mexico
Ask yourself the following questions about your health insurance coverage:
- Do you have a WellCare Medicare Advantage plan?
- Are you eligible for Medicare Advantage in 2025?
- Do you live in New Mexico?
If you answered yes to these questions it’s important to understand that Medicare plans in your area will experience some big changes in 2025.
What’s Happening to WellCare?
Centene, WellCare’s parent company, will exit a handful of Medicare Advantage (MA) markets next year. The company will no longer offer its Wellcare MA plans in Alabama, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, Rhode Island, and New Mexico, with approximately 12,600 members affected in New Mexico, the most of any state. WellCare will continue offering prescription drug plans in those states.
What Does That Mean for Me?
WellCare Medicare Advantage plans will not be available in New Mexico in 2025. Your coverage will continue until the end of 2024. WellCare prescription drug plans will be available in New Mexico in 2025.
You’ll need to choose a different insurer for your 2025 Medicare Advantage coverage when you enroll in a plan at Open Enrollment time this fall.
